The Kwai Tsing Theatre was opened in November 1999. It is considered to be the centre of the fine arts in Hong Kong, and thanks to its versatility it can be used for classical theatre, dance performances, Chinese and Western operas and concerts In 2016, SBS Bühnentechnik GmbH was commissioned to renovate the stage equipment there
The order included installing 16 new hoists and renewing the drums and scaffolding tubes on 57 hoists in the pre-existing system. The refurbished overstage devices and the existing understage equipment are also to be integrated into our COSTACOwin® control system. By installing a 3D flying system, SBS was able to fulfil the customer’s wish to expand their staging abilities and use the mobile equipment to create flying movements in three dimensions. Our own 3D visualisation and simulation program VISTOR was also delivered to the customer as part of the refurbishment. This makes it possible to plan and set up a show on any stage realistically in advance, sitting at a laptop, using the precise machinery and decorations from that venue. Only 15 weeks after SBS started the construction work, it was ready to be handed over to the theatre.
