In December 2011, following an international tender, SBS Bühnentechnik was awarded the contract to supply and install the stage machinery for the new multi-purpose “House of Music” cultural centre in Denmark’s fourth largest city, Aalborg.

The stage technology installed by SBS comprises five canopies (acoustic reflectors) with an area of up to 68m². In the front canopy, two flaps are integrated, allowing the main loudspeaker cluster to be lowered through a circular opening of 3m diameter.

In addition, eight scenery hoists with double-fly bars shaped to reflect the contours of the canopy as well as ten electromotive stage podiums with rigid-chain drives were installed to allow a perfect staggering of the orchestra. The entire machinery is operated by a control system supplied and installed by SBS.

To modify the room’s sonic characteristics, 20 acoustic curtains were installed in the concert hall. These are operated manually at the level of the stalls and by electric motor behind the auditorium tiers. When not in use, the curtains are retracted into special cases in the walls, rendering them invisible to the visitor.

The largest cultural venue in northern Denmark, which was opened on 29 March 2014 in the presence of the Danish Queen, has become the new landmark of Aalborg.
