The National Convention Centre NCC in Hanoi is the largest new cultural building constructed in Vietnam since the war. In 2006 the NCC was the venue for the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Conference, attended by the heads of state and government of the USA, Japan, Russia and China, among others.

The NCC presented a special challenge. The 215-metre-long, 114-metre-wide and 53-metre-high structure is built on 1,158 pilings. It can withstand typhoons, monsoon rains and earthquakes, and can even keep running when the supply of electricity and water is cut. The conference hall with its large stalls area and balconies can accommodate 3,600 guests. In addition, there are smaller meeting rooms for 200 to 500 people.

SBS supplied the entire stage and hall conversion technology as well as the computer control system. The unique acoustic partition wall (approx. 75 t total mass) was a particular challenge. An electric motor can lift the 44-m long and 10 m-high curved steel structure a distance of more than 8 m to divide the conference hall.
